Roman Circus of Tarragona
Archeological site

In the urban revitalization of Tarragona's Roman Circus, an initiative led by Andrea Bruno, a deliberate choice was made to retain the medieval walls enveloping the site. This preservation effort not only safeguards the authenticity of the location but also accentuates the city's rich historical layers. Visitors are beckoned to traverse a sweeping, inclined walkway, symbolically distancing themselves from the contemporary era. Crossing through the medieval walls, they arrive at the perimeter of the ancient archaeological site, now a focal point of the museum.

To achieve this, a portion of the walls was sacrificed, creating a purposeful vertical break sealed by an exquisite brass door. Crafted with meticulous attention, this door stands as an elegant threshold, serving as both a physical barrier and a symbolic portal. Positioned obliquely, it not only underscores the substantiality of the wall but also artfully obscures direct views from the outside, inviting an air of mystery and anticipation as visitors approach the archaeological treasures within.
